Weymouth Woods — Sandhills Nature Preserve
900 acres of longleaf pine forest with easy trails. Free, peaceful, and genuinely special.
900 acres of longleaf pine forest with several miles of flat, peaceful trails. The longleaf pine ecosystem is genuinely special — it’s one of the most endangered habitats in North America, and Weymouth Woods is one of the best places to experience it.
The trails are easy and well-marked. You don’t need hiking boots or a plan — just show up and walk. There’s a small nature museum at the entrance that’s worth a quick stop, especially if you have kids. Free and open daily. This is one of the best things to do in the area, full stop.
