Downtown Southern Pines

Broad Street in Southern Pines — independent bookstores, art galleries, great restaurants, and bars worth staying in. The downtown locals love and visitors underestimate.

Southern Pines is a different vibe from Pinehurst — less preserved, more lived-in. Broad Street is the main drag and it covers a lot of ground: independent bookstores, art galleries, antique shops, coffee, and enough bars and restaurants to fill a full evening without a plan.

The Country Bookshop is one of the best independent bookstores in North Carolina — worth a stop on its own. Campbell House Galleries shows serious contemporary art, not tourist prints. The Sunrise Theater is a restored 1920s movie house still showing current films. Walk it slowly, pop into what catches your eye.

Southern Pines rewards the people who get off the main road and actually spend time in it. It’s the kind of downtown that locals love and visitors underestimate.
